S M Sehgal Foundation celebrates 25 Years of Impact
The event featured speeches by key leaders, a documentary screening, a commemorative coffee table book unveiling, and a digital exhibit.

The S M Sehgal Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Indian-American scientist and philanthropist, Surinder Mohan Sehgal, celebrated its 25th anniversary at its green building campus in Gurugram, India, highlighting a quarter-century of dedication to sustainable rural development.
Founded in 1999 as a public charitable trust, the NGO has worked to empower rural communities, fostering social, economic, and environmental changes across rural India.
During the milestone event, Indian-American trustee and executive vice president of the foundation’s US chapter, Jay Sehgal, reflected on its journey and growth over the past 25 years. He credited the foundation’s success to the hard work of its dedicated team, partners, and the communities it serves.
CEO and trustee Anjali Makhija presented an overview of the foundation’s key programs, which address critical issues in rural India, including water management, agricultural development, and women’s empowerment. She emphasized the foundation’s innovative multimedia communication approach aimed at disseminating information and fostering local participation.
In a recorded message, founder Suri Sehgal remarked, “We have seen firsthand the power of community-led initiatives and the ongoing progress that is possible when individuals are given the tools and support they need to take charge of their own destinies.”
The event included a screening of a documentary chronicling the foundation's achievements over the years. To commemorate the occasion, a coffee table book detailing the organization’s milestones and partnerships was unveiled. A digital exhibit showcased the foundation’s extensive impact across 2,658 villages in 66 districts and twelve states, including Haryana, Punjab, and Maharashtra.
