Saheli Boston to host Nirbhaya 2024 fundraiser in US

Saheli, a non profit organization supporting women and children is set to host its annual fundraiser, Nirbhaya 2024, Dec.1, 2024. It also provides language-specific information and support services for South Asian women who have experienced domestic violence.

The event will take place at the Crowne Plaza Boston - Woburn, located at 15 Middlesex Canal Park, Woburn, Massachusetts,  US. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be directed toward vital services, including housing safety, mental health and legal assistance, and mentoring programs designed to empower women and children to achieve independence.

Saheli’s work is centered on creating a life free of violence for women and children. By providing education, resources, and advocacy, the organization plays a crucial role in supporting survivors and fostering independence. The Nirbhaya fundraiser is a key part of this mission, raising funds to sustain essential programs and services.

The evening will feature a performance by Natraj, a renowned world-jazz ensemble. Formed in 1987, Natraj is celebrated for its unique fusion of Indian classical music, West African rhythms, and contemporary jazz. Their latest album, Ragamala Paintings Alive, reinterprets traditional ragamala compositions with a modern twist.

The ensemble consists of accomplished musicians, including Phil Scarff on saxophone, Rohan Gregory on violin and viola, Jerry Leake on tabla and percussion, Mike Rivard on bass, and Bertram Lehmann on drums. 

The fundraiser is co-chaired by siblings Aruna Krishnamurthy and Anand Krishnamurthy, and will be hosted by Ruchika Yadav and Poppy Charnalia.
