India's Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian defeated world No. 2 Anders Antonsen of Denmark, on March 20, to advance to the men's singles quarterfinals of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
Subramanian, a silver medalist at the 2022 World Junior Championships and currently ranked No. 64 in the world, won the match 18-21, 21-12, 21-5 in 66 minutes.
The 21-year-old from Tamil Nadu showed strong defense and capitalized on Antonsen’s errors to secure the victory. He will next face world No. 31 Christo Popov of France, scheduled for March 21 in Basel, Switzerland, who has had a strong season with titles at the German and Hylo Opens.
Subramanian is the only Indian singles player left in the tournament.
