Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO of Microsoft, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the future of technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence (AI) in India. The discussions centered around Microsoft's ambitious plans to expand its operations and increase its investments in India, a country that has quickly become one of the most important markets for the global tech giant.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed his happiness about Microsoft’s expanding footprint in India, emphasizing the country’s readiness to embrace technological advancements and foster a favorable environment for innovation. "It was indeed a delight to meet you, @satyanadella! Glad to know about Microsoft's ambitious expansion and investment plans in India," Modi shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the fruitful discussions that unfolded between the two leaders.

The Hyderabad-born CEO has always been a staunch advocate for the role of AI in solving global challenges, reaffirming Microsoft’s commitment to India. Under his leadership, the company has already made significant strides in India with various AI-powered initiatives that aim to improve productivity, empower businesses, and provide solutions for societal issues such as agricultural sustainability and healthcare access in remote areas.

In January 2024, Nadella announced Microsoft’s new skilling investment in India to empower people and organizations to thrive in the AI era. The investment will see Microsoft provide 2 million people in India with AI skilling opportunities by 2025 through its ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA initiative.

Furthermore, Microsoft is fortifying India's rapidly expanding developer community, which will allow them to develop products and services that are not only intended for the domestic market but also for a global audience. The company’s AI-powered platform, GitHub, plays a central role in fostering these innovations.
