U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) met with Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) leaders on Jan. 8., to acknowledge the significant contributions of the Indian-American community to Texas and their charitable efforts throughout the state.

Cornyn, a co-founder of the Senate India Caucus, emphasized his commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the United States and India. “I remain committed to strengthening bilateral ties between the United States and India and to the fight for religious freedom,” he said.

Previously, Cornyn commended BAPS for its charitable contributions to Texas and beyond. He highlighted the organization’s impactful role in supporting local communities, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, through various relief efforts.

In 2013, the Senator and his wife Sandy Cornyn also paid a visit  to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Stafford, Texas to appreciate the art and architecture of the Mandir as well as to learn more about the culture and values of Indian-Americans living in Texas.

Cornyn’s visit aligns with his continued support for India and the Indian-American community, with his statement reflecting the significance of these ties: “India will always have a friend in Texas and by extension to the entire United States.” He expressed confidence that future collaboration between the two countries would be vital for mutual prosperity, especially in strengthening supply chains.
