Sewa Boston hosts Garba event celebrating culture and community
The event's combination of cultural festivities and charitable efforts showcased Sewa Boston’s commitment to promoting social responsibility.

US-based humanitarian organization Sewa International’s Boston chapter hosted a Garba celebration at the Sai Temple in Groton, on Oct. 5.
The event attracted over 500 attendees who engaged in energetic dance as DJ Ashok provided traditional music. The festivities also featured a marketplace where local artisans sold jewelry, sarees, and artwork, promoting economic empowerment within the community.
Youth volunteers played a key role, managing activities such as selling raffle tickets and snacks. Attendees were treated to a variety of authentic Indian dishes from Gurnam Catering, which earned widespread praise for its rich flavors and traditional offerings.
Philanthropy was a major focus of the evening, with funds raised benefiting local nonprofits including New England Leherein, the Aidworks Foundation, and Sewa’s SHE program, which supports women’s education and skill development.
Sewa Boston is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization which focuses on serving the local community in the Boston area by organizing events and programs aimed at social development, disaster relief, education, healthcare, and women's empowerment.
