Shatrudhan Gupta awarded $15,000 grant from Pollock-Krasner Foundation

The Lucknow University’s former student of fine arts has received the grant to support his artistic journey and global contributions.

Indian visual artist and independent curator Shatrudhan K. Gupta, known for his innovative and thought-provoking works, received a $15,000 grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. 

The prestigious award, which supports professional artists worldwide, was granted after a thorough review process by a distinguished committee of arts professionals. 

Gupta shared his excitement on X, saying, “I am beyond grateful and thrilled to share that I have been selected for the prestigious art award ‘Jackson Pollock Award’ from the esteemed ‘Pollock-Krasner Foundation’.”
 



Gupta holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Visual Arts from the University of Lucknow, India, and completed a Senior Scholar Research Program at the China Academy of Art. He has held 12 solo exhibitions in China and India and participated in major art biennales, including the Beijing International Art Biennale. His works have been exhibited globally, in places like London, Seoul, and China.

Gupta has also been an artist-in-residence at renowned institutions such as the Ningbo Museum of Art, Dimensions Art Centre, and Shangyuan Art Museum in China. His works are part of permanent collections in prestigious museums, including the National Art Museum of China and Lalit Kala Akademi, as well as numerous private collections worldwide.

The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, established by renowned artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, has awarded nearly 5,200 grants to artists across 80 countries. 

The Foundation’s mission is to provide vital funding for emerging, mid-career, and established artists, helping them continue their work and achieve new milestones in their careers. Gupta’s selection is a testament to his dedication to his craft and his significant impact on the contemporary art scene.

In a letter congratulating Gupta, Caroline Black, executive director of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, expressed her excitement about supporting his artistic journey. 

"We are honored to support you in your practice and artistic career," Black wrote. "Lee Krasner was deeply committed to supporting the generations of artists who would come after her, and we hope this grant fosters your artistic endeavors in the coming year."
