Shivani Parikh, a housing attorney at Queens Legal Services, has been recognized on City & State New York’s 2025 Queens Power 100 list. The annual list highlights influential leaders who help shape the future of Queens and keep the borough moving forward.
Parikh, a 2024 graduate of Fordham Law School, also serves on the Language Assistance Advisory Committee for the New York City Civic Engagement Commission.
She shared her gratitude in a LinkedIn post: "I’m honored to be recognized and am a legacy of the trailblazing work of my attorney mentors, South Queens Women's March Executive Director and Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus Co-founder Aminta Kilawan, Esq. (Queens 100 ‘22 and ‘23), and South Asian & Indo-Caribbean Bar Association of Queens (SAICBA-Q) President Ali Najmi (40 Under 40 ’21, Law 100 ‘24, and Asian 100 ‘24). The future is brown!”
During law school, Indian-origin Parikh served as president of the North American South Asian Law Students Association and was the diversity, equity, and inclusion chair of Fordham’s South Asian Law Students Association.
She was the only student in her class to participate in three major academic programs at Fordham Law: the Stein Scholars Program in Public Interest Law and Ethics, the Crowley Program in International Human Rights, and the Realizing Excellence and Access in the Law (REAL) Scholars Program.
In January 2024, Parikh founded the South Asian Legal Defense Fund to further support underserved communities. She joined Queens Legal Services in September, where she works to protect tenants facing eviction.
This year, Parikh is also serving as a youth forum delegate to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), where she advocates for the creation of a U.N. Permanent Forum on People of South Asian Descent.
