A short film based on the life and political ascent of Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Asian American and Black woman to be declared as a presidential nominee, is set to release in theaters nationwide in October.

Titled “KAMALA", the film is a joint project by Illumin8 Entertainment and Pizarro Creative and is co-directed by Samir Zakir and Gerard Pizarro, marking their directorial debut.

"KAMALA" delves into the resilience and pursuit of justice that define Harris's story, blending innovative storytelling, animation, and interviews with prominent figures, a news release by the makers noted.

Pizarro emphasized the film’s focus on Harris's humanity, stating, “This film is about more than Kamala’s political journey—it’s about her humanity. It’s about the joyous warrior she is.”

The symbolism of the lotus flower (which is called Kamala in Sanskrit), representing growth and resilience, is a recurring theme in the film. Samir Zakir, who also serves as a writer and producer, described the project as a collaboration of "underdogs telling an underdog story," reflecting both Harris's journey and the filmmakers' own challenges.

Produced by Tracey Bing of Badabing Pictures, the film is positioned as an artistic exploration of one of today's most influential figures, highlighting the personal sacrifices and untold stories that have shaped Harris’s path.

Bakari Sellers, a CNN political analyst and former South Carolina state legislator, joins the team as a consulting producer.
