California’s Sikh and Hindu communities gathered together to honor the martyrdom of Sahibzade on Dec. 26 in the Jain Center of Greater Sacramento. Following the Interfaith Unity event on Nov. 24 at Gurudwara Sant Sagar in Sacramento, this second gathering welcomed 150 community members.

The Sahibzade, four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji—Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh—were young Khalsa warriors who stood against religious persecution. They were martyred by the Mughal army before age 19; their sacrifice symbolizes courage, faith, and devotion, honored by Sikhs worldwide.

This day, Dec. 26, celebrated as Veer Sahibzade Balidani Diwas honors the courage and resilience of the four young Sahibzade. Narinderpal Singh Hundal, General Secretary of Gurudwara Sant Sagar, vividly recounted the story and events surrounding the martyrdom of the Sahibzade in great detail. He also announced plans to celebrate Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s 350th martyrdom anniversary in November 2025.

The event opened with an Ardas (Sikh prayer), followed by children showcasing their talents through stage performances and quizzes celebrating their heritage.

Bhai Kuljit Singh from Gurudwara Sant Sagar led the prayer and beautifully recited the Shabad Mittar Pyare Nu, composed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
