The cast of the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's beloved manga, One Piece Season 2 continues to expand, with Netflix announcing the addition of two prominent actors of South Asian descent, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Charithra Chandran.

Both actors will take on key roles in the highly anticipated next chapter of the show, which follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as they search for the legendary treasure known as "One Piece."

Sendhil Ramamurthy, an Indian-American actor known for his roles in Heroes, Never Have I Ever, and the recent Bollywood film Do Aur Do Pyaar, has been cast as Nefertari Cobra, the King of Alabasta.

Reacting to the casting announcement, Ramamurthy expressed his excitement on social media, writing, "I’ve been sitting on this for so long I was beginning to think I dreamt it... so excited to be your Nefertari Cobra!" Filming for Season 2 is currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa.

Ramamurthy, who has also starred in New Amsterdam and Covert Affairs, joins the diverse ensemble of the One Piece universe, which continues to attract global talent. The official One Piece X account (formerly Twitter) announced his role, describing Nefertari Cobra as "the pillar of integrity in a kingdom at crossroads," adding anticipation for the actor’s portrayal of the iconic character.

Meanwhile, British-Indian actress Charithra Chandran, known for her breakout role in Bridgerton Season 2, will take on the role of Miss Wednesday. Best known for her portrayal of Edwina Sharma in the Regency-era drama, Chandran's performance captivated audiences, and her transition to One Piece adds another exciting dimension to her career. Chandran’s previous credits include roles in Alex Rider and Star Wars: Visions.

The executive producers of One Piece, Matt Owens and Joe Tracz, as well as the creator of the series, Eiichiro Oda, supervise the production of the show at Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. The live-action adaptation has garnered significant attention for its faithful adaptation of the source material while embracing new creative directions.

Season 2 of One Piece is expected to debut in 2025, with fans eagerly awaiting the performances of both Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra and Chandran as Miss Wednesday.
