Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s economic development missions in 2024 showcased the state's booming economy and cemented ties with key international partners, with India taking center stage.
“Texas remains the most popular destination for Indian foreign direct investment and jobs created in the entire United States,” Governor Abbott said during his visit to India in January 2024. The trip highlighted Texas’s growing collaboration with the country in sectors like technology, manufacturing, and energy.
In Mumbai, he met with industry leaders to promote Texas’ business-friendly environment and participated in a Texas-India business industry roundtable and reception hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He also met Bollywood film industry leaders.
In New Delhi, Abbott engaged in strategic discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
The meetings explored expanding investment in critical sectors like information and communication technology, engineering, and aerospace technology. Abbott emphasized the opportunities Texas offers Indian businesses, highlighting its premier position as a global economic hub.
“I am confident this enduring bond and strong collaboration will continue for years to come after this very productive economic development mission,” he had said.
As 2024 came to a closer, Abbott highlighted the three economic development missions he led in 2024, including in India.
He reflected: “Texas is the eighth-largest economy in the world, a global leader in energy and trade, and the world’s premier economic destination because of our top-tier business climate.”
Governor Abbott continued: “In 2024, I visited with business leaders and government officials in India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom to showcase the booming Texas economy and attract more businesses to invest in our great state. As Texas looks toward growing our economy even more in 2025, we will continue to provide leading businesses from across the nation and the world with the opportunities they need to thrive in Texas.”
Expanding global reach
Beyond India, Governor Abbott’s 2024 missions extended to other strategic global partners.
United Kingdom: In March, Abbott met with then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and signed a Statement of Mutual Cooperation, prioritizing critical sectors like renewable energy, aerospace, and advanced technologies. He also delivered the prestigious Ronald Reagan Lecture in London.
Taiwan: In July, Abbott announced the opening of the State of Texas Taiwan Office, aimed at boosting trade and innovation in sectors like semiconductor manufacturing and energy resilience.
South Korea: Abbott celebrated SeAH Group’s $110 million investment in a Texas manufacturing facility, creating over 100 jobs. He also visited Samsung’s semiconductor campus.
Japan: The Governor signed a Statement of Mutual Cooperation with Aichi Prefecture, strengthening trade and economic partnerships, and met with key Japanese officials to foster collaboration in cutting-edge industries.
