Thanksgiving travel period off to a record start

A record 80 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles for Thanksgiving.

Millions of Americans are set to crowd into airports or hit the road on Nov. 27 ahead of Thanksgiving Day which is shaping up to be one of the busiest travel days of the year.

On Nov. 26, about 2.7 million passengers were screened at airport security checkpoints, the highest ever for a Tuesday before Thanksgiving and beating last year's record, according to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. The travel industry expects even more travelers on Nov. 27 and Sunday, Dec. 1.
