Indian drama Shadowbox (Baksho Bondi), starring Tillotama Shome, is set to compete in the Perspectives Competition category at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. The category showcases debut feature films with unique storytelling. The 75th Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, will be held from Feb. 13 to 23, 2025, in Berlin, Germany.
Shadowbox will also have its premiere at the prestigious event. Directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi, Shadowbox is a co-production between India, France, the US, and Spain.
Set in a Kolkata suburb, the film follows Maya (played by Shome), a working woman whose life takes a dramatic turn when her husband, an ex-soldier suffering from PTSD, becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation. As the family faces mounting challenges, Maya and her teenage son must go to extraordinary lengths to stay together.
The cast also includes Chandan Bisht, Sayan Karmakar, and Suman Saha in pivotal roles.
Actor Jim Sarbh, who was an executive producer of Shadowbox, expressed his excitement about the film’s selection on Instagram, “Couldn’t be more thrilled to share that our labour of love ‘Shadowbox’ (‘Baksho Bondi’), directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi, has been selected in the new Perspectives Competition at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival.”
Following the announcement of the film's nomination, congratulatory messages flooded social media. Tillotama Shome shared several Instagram stories, expressing her gratitude and appreciation for the overwhelming support.
