Emmy-nominated filmmaker Tirlok Malik's film On Golden Years was met with enthusiastic applause and a positive reception from the audience at the 19th Teaneck International Film Festival. The screening took place on Nov.10, 2024, as part of the festival’s annual celebration, highlighting Malik's film for its moving exploration of love, resilience, and the immigrant experience.
The film, which reflects the lives of immigrants navigating love and life in a new country, resonated strongly with attendees. Sanjay Modi, an audience member, praised the storytelling, describing it as a “truly good story and well portrayed on the big screen,” adding that he planned to watch it again with his wife.
Another attendee, Harry Shah, commented on the film's message, saying it held a “great message of love” and portrayed “a reality which we immigrants have been living.” Longtime supporters Pam and Lall Kawatra expressed their appreciation for the film, saying, “We loved the film; congratulations to Tirlok Malik!”
The NPZ Law Group served as a sponsor for the screening. David Nachman, managing attorney at Nachman, Phulwani, Zimovcak (NPZ) Law Group, commented on the firm’s support: “Thank you for giving us the opportunity to sponsor such an excellent film with such an important message at a critical time. The NPZ Law Group is pleased to support TIFF’s missions and messages. Congratulations to Tirlok Malik for providing attendees with exposure to a truly timeless film.”
Jeremy Lentz, executive director of the Teaneck International Film Festival, also expressed his thoughts on the screening, stating, “It was an honor to present On Golden Years at the 19th Teaneck International Film Festival. The message of this film reminds us to love each day you are given and live each day you’ve got — leading with love and compassion. I hope this film will uplift and inspire others to be kind to each other and take care of one another.”
Following the screening, Malik engaged with the audience in a Q&A session, where he expressed his gratitude, shared humorous anecdotes, and concluded with a message encouraging attendees to “love oneself and live every moment of life to the fullest.” This sentiment, central to the film’s theme, left a lasting impact on viewers and reinforced the festival’s focus on using cinema to inspire connection and appreciation for life.
