Tulsi Gabbard, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI), arrived in India on Mar.16 as part of her multi-nation tour of the Indo-Pacific. Her visit includes participation in a high-level conference chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, focusing on strengthening intelligence-sharing mechanisms to counter terrorism and transnational crime.

The conference, set to take place in the national capital, will bring together intelligence chiefs from Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and other key partner nations to enhance global security cooperation. Gabbard’s visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Washington in February, during which he met with her and described her as a strong advocate for India-U.S. relations.

This marks Gabbard’s first visit to India since taking office as the eighth Senate-confirmed DNI and the first female combat veteran to hold the role. She is also the first official from the Trump administration to visit India since the President's inauguration on Jan.20.

India, a key U.S. partner in the Indo-Pacific, is expected to feature prominently in Gabbard's engagements during the visit. In February, Gabbard was the first U.S. official to meet Modi at Blair House on Feb.12, ahead of his bilateral discussions with President Donald Trump.
