Two Indians named finalists for 2025 Commonwealth Youth Awards

Keyaan Shah is recognized for AbiliTec, improving accessibility for disabled people, while Smriti Bhaya is honored for Sakhi, an AI platform supporting 20 million women’s healthcare in India.

Keyaan Shah and Smriti Bhaya, two young Indians, have been named as Asia regional finalists for the 2025 Commonwealth Youth Awards. These prestigious awards celebrate the exceptional contributions of young leaders in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and making a positive impact in their communities.

The awards ceremony will take place at Marlborough House, the headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat, on Mar.12 and will be attended by senior government officials, youth leaders, and other key stakeholders. The event will be hosted by the Commonwealth Secretary-General, the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC. The ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook.

Shah, a 16-year-old social innovator, is acknowledged for his initiative, AbiliTec, which tackles accessibility issues for underserved people with disabilities.

Bhaya has been recognized for transforming public maternal healthcare in India with Sakhi, an AI-powered platform that supports 20 million women each year.

This year’s Commonwealth Youth Awards attracted a remarkable response, with over 800 applications submitted. After a rigorous review process by a panel of 54 Pan-Commonwealth adjudicators, 20 finalists were selected, including Shah and Bhaya, who represent India’s commitment to social entrepreneurship, climate action, innovation, and community health.

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia, expressed her admiration for the finalists, "Our young people have demonstrated remarkable innovation and dedication in their efforts to create a fairer, more secure, and sustainable Commonwealth. These young leaders are driving positive change and exemplify the incredible potential of 1.7 billion youth across the Commonwealth."
