The United Hindu Council has launched a new awareness campaign, "Ask Yunus WHY", to draw attention to the alleged violence and discrimination faced by Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, and other minorities in Bangladesh.

The United Hindu Council, a grassroots organization in the Bay Area, hopes this initiative will raise awareness and foster solidarity in addressing the urgent need for justice for minorities in Bangladesh.

The initiative includes a comprehensive campaign starting Dec.23. Over the next three months, the council will plan to consistently highlight the alleged violence on billboards.

The campaign's first billboard has been unveiled at 880-N and Market Street in Oakland. Over the next three months, similar digital billboards will appear at six high-traffic locations across the Bay Area, including major routes like 101, 880, and prominent bridges.

A website has been created for this topic, and people will visit it after seeing the billboard message.

The exact location and parking details were shared on the morning of Dec.23, with everyone encouraged to join in Hayward between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. Protesters were asked to take photos and videos of the billboard for social media promotion. Similar details for upcoming locations will be shared each Monday morning.

The campaign schedule is as follows:

Monday, Dec. 23, 2024  – Location 1 was Hayward
Monday, Jan. 6, 2025
Monday, Jan. 20, 2025
Monday, Feb. 3, 2025
Monday, Feb. 17, 2025
Monday, Mar. 3, 2025

In a joint statement, Rohit Sharma, Deepak Bajaj, and Daipayan Deb of the United Hindu Council said, “Our mission is to educate, elevate, and energize humanity. Hinduism promotes peace, universal oneness, and mutual respect—values that all of humanity should embrace. The violence against minorities in Bangladesh is deeply concerning. We urge Mohammad Yunus and his government to adopt an inclusive approach and protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of religion. We also call on global leaders, including those in the United States, to advocate for human rights and ensure freedom and safety for all in Bangladesh.”

The campaign includes a dedicated website, www.AskYunusWhy.com, where people can find more information and resources. The Council is also encouraging the community to share the campaign on social media using the hashtag #AskYunusWhy and to engage local leaders in amplifying the message.
