The University of Toledo’s Rocket Cricket Club (RCC) made its debut by hosting its inaugural tournament, the Rockets Premier League.
The tournament, held last week at the university's Health Education Center, attracted a diverse group of participants, including students, alumni, local industry players, and community cricket enthusiasts. The event highlighted RCC’s mission to foster a dynamic cricketing community on campus.

“Our mission encompasses promoting the sport, encouraging active participation and fostering lasting connections among our diverse membership. Recognizing cricket’s global appeal, we’ve created a space where students from various backgrounds can unite, compete and build a strong community,” the club’s executive board said. “Our primary focus is to advance the game while providing players with opportunities to showcase their skills at a competitive level.”
Anju Gupta, associate professor of mechanical engineering and faculty advisor for RCC, praised the club’s efforts. “This club not only provides a platform for students to engage in their favorite sport but also helps in building camaraderie and promoting physical activity on campus.”
The tournament concluded with an exciting final where team Deccan Chargers triumphed over Sunrisers Supergiants by 8 runs. Venky, named Player of the Match, delivered a match-winning bowling performance, taking 2 wickets for just 6 runs in 2 overs.
In a gesture of sportsmanship, Deccan Chargers donated their winning amount ($75) back to RCC, further strengthening the club’s mission of promoting cricket on campus.
RCC, which currently has six active members, conducts weekly practice sessions and intercollegiate matches at the Health Education Center. Practices are held on Fridays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. (local time) and on weekends from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. (local time) The club welcomes players of all skill levels, from seasoned cricketers to newcomers looking to learn the game.
