The White House announced on April 16 that US Vice President JD Vance will visit India as part of his two-nation tour, which will also include Italy, from April 18 to April 24.

The trip will mark Vance’s first official visit to India as Vice President. He will be accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance—the first Indian-American to serve as Second Lady—and their three children, Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.

The Vice President will discuss shared economic and geopolitical priorities with leaders in both countries. According to the official statement, these meetings will focus on “shared economic and geopolitical priorities.”

Following his engagements in Italy, the Vice President will travel to India, where he is scheduled to visit New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. Bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other high ranking officials are on the agenda. The Vice President and the Second Family are also expected to participate in cultural engagements at historic sites.

The trip comes as Indian officials are working to advance trade talks, with expectations of concluding ongoing tariff discussions with the U.S. within six weeks.

In Rome, Vance will meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
