Expedia Group names Ramana Thumu as CTO
In his new role, Thumu will lead Expedia’s technology organization, driving innovation in AI, cloud, and security.

Seattle-based travel technology company, Expedia Group, has appointed Indian American technology leader Ramana Thumu as its new chief technology officer (CTO).
With over two decades of experience in technology leadership, Thumu will oversee Expedia’s technology organization, which includes engineering, data, artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, and security.
Thumu, who most recently served as chief product and technology officer at Fanatics Commerce, will assume his new role in Dec 2024, based in San Francisco. He will report directly to Ariane Gorin, Expedia Group’s CEO.

Thumu expressed excitement about joining Expedia Group, emphasizing his passion for technology, data, and travel. "Travel has the unique ability to create unforgettable experiences," he said. "I look forward to working with Ariane and her talented leadership team to build innovative solutions that enhance the customer experience and empower more people to explore the world."
At Fanatics Commerce, Thumu was instrumental in developing the company’s global technology and data strategy, including the creation of the Fanatics Cloud Commerce Platform, which personalized real-time shopping experiences. Before his time at Fanatics, he spent a decade at eBay, where he played a key role in developing data, advertising, fraud, and personalization platforms that contributed to the company's global growth.
Thumu earned his Btech from Sri Venkateshwara college of Engineering, Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh and a Mtech degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
