Falguni Shah bags another Grammy nomination, this time featuring Modi

The five minute 23 seconds long song has excerpts from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech

The song 'Abundance in Millets', composed by Grammy-winning Falguni Shah and her husband, singer Gaurav Shah earned a nomination for this year's Grammy Awards under the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category.

The highlight of the track features excerpts from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the inauguration of the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference held in New Delhi earlier in 2023.

The song aims to highlight the nutritional benefits of millets and the government's initiatives to promote this vital cereal. Millets such as pearl millet, sorghum, finger millet, and various small millets have been pivotal in India's agricultural landscape.

The Mumbai-born singer-songwriter Shah, who is also known as Falu, released the song in June to coincide with the celebration of the International Year of Millets-2023. United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation recognised the year 2023 as the "International Year of Millets" following India's proposal.

The government's push to promote millets as a nutritious cereal has been a central theme in its attempt to alleviate poverty. Prime Minister Modi's State Dinner during his visit to the United States in June included millets, serving as a testament to the grains’ versatility and importance.
