FedEx’s Raj Subramaniam and Palo Alto Networks’ Nikesh Arora receive leadership awards
They were among six leaders who were honored for their transformative leadership, corporate responsibility, and advancing critical global issues.

Raj Subramaniam, CEO of FedEx, and Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks, were recognized for their leadership with the 2024 Committee for Economic Development (CED) Distinguished Leadership Award.
The awards, presented by The Conference Board, an American nonprofit and nonpartisan public policy think tank, recognizes leaders who demonstrate excellence in corporate citizenship and business stewardship amid times of global change.
Subramaniam, who has led FedEx for over three decades was praised for his commitment to responsible business practices and efforts to address economic and social challenges. Under his guidance, FedEx has grown into one of the world’s largest transportation networks, serving 220 countries and territories. His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in the delivery of vaccines worldwide, was noted as a key achievement.
"Raj is a visionary leader on an international scale," said J. Cole Smith, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University, Subramaniam's alma mater. The award highlights FedEx’s dedication to global logistics, equal opportunity, and adherence to international standards, even amid economic uncertainty.
Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks, was introduced at the ceremony by Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM. Arora’s work in cybersecurity was spotlighted, focusing on the company's role in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Arora emphasized the balance between maintaining business success and adhering to a mission-driven approach. He reminded business leaders of their responsibility to deliver and to lead in a responsible, mission-driven manner.
The event aimed to inspire other leaders across sectors to adopt innovative, responsible leadership during transformative times, according to Lori Esposito Murray, former president of CED.
