FIA Chicago conducts OCI camp
The camp primarily addressed two key concerns of the Indian diaspora – OCI Card and Passport issues
The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of Chicago, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in Chicago, conducted an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) camp at Manav Seva Mandir in Bensenville, IL on October 10. The event drew participation from over 500 individuals from families of Indian descent.
The camp primarily addressed two key concerns of the Indian diaspora – OCI Card and Passport issues. Consul General Somnath Ghosh provided full support from his office, and over six consulate staff members manned the inquiry and processing desk. They were dedicated to addressing inquiries and facilitating the paperwork process for OCI Cards during the program.
The event, designed to offer extensive assistance to the Indian diaspora and OCI cardholders, saw active and enthusiastic participation from the community. The collaborative initiatives between the FIA and the Consulate General Chicago underscored their ongoing commitment to building robust connections and strengthening support for the Indian community residing abroad.
The Consul General and VSF Representative expressed their gratitude for the FIA initiative and acknowledged the active participation of the community. They stated, "The OCI Camp reflects our ongoing commitment to providing essential services and support to the Indian diaspora. We are grateful for the partnership with the Federation of Indian Associations, which has contributed to the success of this event."
Rashmi Patel President of the Federation of Indian Associations Chicago remarked, "Collaborating with the [Embassy/Consulate General] for this OCI Camp has been a significant step towards strengthening our community bonds. We look forward to more such initiatives that benefit the Indian diaspora."
The FIA, Chicago with support from the Consulate, established a robust platform for community engagement, fostering a sense of unity and support. The OCI camp attracted over 550 registrations, highlighting the community's keen interest in accessing essential services provided by the Consulate General Office.
The camp offered a streamlined process for various OCI services, including new applications, re-issuance, and addressing queries related to OCI cards. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with consular officials for guidance and support on various Indian passport services, ensuring a seamless experience for all involved.
The community-engaging initiative featured expert-led informational sessions covering a range of topics, including legal rights, cultural exchange programs, and updates on the latest developments related to OCI regulations. Attendees also benefited from guidance on Adhaar card and Pan Card matters, with assistance provided for form completion and attestation. Furthermore, the event facilitated the application process for Indian Visas, allowing participants to submit their applications on-site.
