FIA Chicago hosts grand Holi celebration in Naperville

At the event, Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli spoke about contributions made by the Indian diaspora towards building the city.

The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of Chicago hosted a colorful Holi festival celebration along with music, dance, traditional food and depictions of culture in Naperville, Illinois, on Apr.21.
A traditional ensemble called ‘dhol tasha’ was performed by the Maharashtra Mandal.
Sunil Shah, FIA chairman, and president Pratibha Jairath conducted the Holi tradition of applying colors to the forehead of all dignitaries present at the occasion.
Consulate General of India Somnath Ghosh was the chief guest at the event where he spoke about the Indian-American contribution to economic development in the US and the ongoing elections in India where 1.4 billion people are expected to cast their vote.
Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli, who also spoke about the contributions of the Indian diaspora in building the city, joined in the traditional dance as well and learned a few steps.
Alderwoman of Aurora Shweta Baid opined that the welcoming nature of the Indian community ensures smooth integration in whichever places they live.
The last segment of the program was the playing of colors out in the open, a tradition that is said to be at the heart of the Indian festival of Holi.
