FIA NE honors Indian American seniors at I-Day celebration
A vibrant India Day Parade and a grand cultural celebration FIA NE brought India to Boston

The Foundation of Indian Americans (FIA) New England, with many other partner organizations organized the India Day Parade to commemorate India’s 77th Independence Day. Varun Jeph, Deputy Consul General of India, New York, and dignitaries including eminnet community leaders Abhishek Singh, Ramesh Kapur, Keshav Sharan, Subbu Kota, Sandeep Asija, Bob Lancia, Sharad Patney, Kaushik Patel and Sanjay Kaul attended the celebrations at Boston Harbor.
The parade that drew hundreds of people from the greater Boston Area celebrated India's rich heritage with a variety of themed floats on freedom, India-US, art, culture and more.It started from Langone Park, Commercial Street and went upto Christopher Columbus Park, Atlantic Avenue.
The highlight of the event was the felicitation of seniors who have contributed significantly to the Indian community in the United States.76 children sang the Indian National Anthem for the distinguished seniors, who were honored with certificates and scarves. On the occassion, the organization also honored Veterans with financial aid and supported small business owners with free booths.
Boston Mayor, Michelle Wu issued a proclamamtion to commemorate August 15 as India's Independence Day in the city. She also lauded the Indian Community in Boston for upholding their customs and appreciated their contributions to the city. "Indians play a significant role in the ethnic diversity of Boston by incorporating their rich spiritual and cultural traditions and their dedication to the responsibilities of good citizenship while never forgetting about their history and heritage," the proclamation read.
"Freedom always comes at price but keeping the dreams and inner bliss happiness as we see in this chaotic world requires that special passion - passion to serve and sacrifice," said Abhishek Singh. "Hoisting Indias flag of freedom reminds us of USA freedom movements and many other emerging countries who sacrificed for freedom - we do not want to forget those hero’s. USA and India - the citizens have that special bond from Gandhiji to Thoroeau to Martin Luther king - physical and spiritual freedom," he said.
"India has maintained the principle of righteousness via following ancient culture of heritage despite more than 700 years of governance from foreign countries. Special thanks for all who supported us financially, sponsorships or small business owners, veterans and seniors who took the trouble to join us on this wonderful day Also need to thank very very specially to Boston Police, transport department, and all. Soton City and State Departments for giving us permission and be with us," Singh said.
