The Foundation of Indian-Americans (FIA) New England celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day on Jan.26 by partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood donation drive that will undoubtedly save countless lives. The event, held at The Mercantile from 8 AM to 4 PM, stood as a powerful display of community service and solidarity.
The drive saw an exceptional turnout, with nearly four dozen individuals registering to donate blood. Kaushik Patel, one of the key organizers, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are grateful to the American Red Cross for giving us this incredible opportunity to serve our community.”
The event began with an emotionally charged moment, as attendees stood in unison for both the U.S. and Indian national anthems. This symbolic gesture of unity underscored the strong bond between the two nations and set the tone for the day’s activities.
FIA New England president Abhishek Singh, alongside his executive team, spearheaded the initiative. The event was made possible due to efforts of volunteers and leaders, including Sanjay Gokhale, Nikhil Wadhwa, Ajaya Papapurthi, Anand Sharma, Jyoti Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Manisha Kumar, Anupma Debroy, Priyanka Wadhwa, Archana and Giriths Soni, Amol Penshanwar, and Santosh Thawani.
The success of the blood donation drive was also owed to the selfless "Blood Warriors" — volunteers who came out in full force to donate and make a tangible difference in the lives of others. Their participation was instrumental in ensuring the drive’s success and was deeply appreciated by all involved.
Following the day’s impactful efforts, the community gathered for a celebration at The Mercantile from 5 PM to 10 PM. The evening included live entertainment, cultural performances, and a shared sense of pride as attendees came together to honor Republic Day. Special thanks were extended to The Mercantile for providing a delicious dinner for volunteers and attendees after a day of giving back.
Notable figures such as Dr. Charu Patel, Mohan Nannapanni (Founder of TeamAid), philanthropist Sandeep Asija, Nisa & Virendra Baba, Sunaina & Kamal Chauhan (founder of Ayoti), Geena Virmani (famous realtor), and the FIA New England executive team were also recognized for their ongoing support and contributions.
The event not only celebrated Republic Day but also exemplified the power of community and compassion. As one of the dignitaries at the event put it, “Donating blood on Republic Day feels like the perfect way to honor both our heritage and our community. It’s such an honor to be part of this cause.”
