First-Gen Ashwin Ramaswami loses House poll by just 2,875 votes

Ramaswami received 48 percent of the vote, totaling 30,655 votes, while Still secured victory with 52 percent.

Ashwin Ramaswami, the Democratic candidate for Georgia State Senate, extended his congratulations to Shawn Still following a closely contested race. Despite Ramaswami’s strong campaign, Still secured the victory with 52 percent of the vote, totaling 33,530 votes, while Ramaswami garnered 48 percent, with 30,655 votes.

“Our campaign brought together overlooked communities and turned out the vote like never before. Onwards and upwards,” Ramaswami said.

Ashwin Ramaswami, a 25-year-old Democrat, made history earlier this year as the first Indian American and Gen Z candidate to win the Democratic primary for State Senate. Born to parents from Tamil Nadu who immigrated in 1990, Ramaswami left his job in election security at CISA to run against his opponent, Still. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

His campaign announced that he has raised over US$412,000 to date, with US$297,000 remaining in cash reserves. Ramaswami’s significant fundraising efforts have allowed him to outpace Still in terms of financial backing and community support.
