Swati Dave is the first Indian Australian appointed to the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) board in its 64-year history.
The Australian government announced her appointment, along with other prominent Australians, to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) two newly formed boards.
“We’ve chosen exceptional Australians with the expertise and experience needed to guide this vital institution,” the government stated. The appointments reflect a commitment to ensuring the RBA is well-prepared to meet both current and future economic demands while enhancing its governance and effectiveness.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers commended Dave’s extensive experience and leadership, stating, "Swati Dave is a seasoned banking executive and non-executive director with over 30 years of expertise in domestic and international financing. Her strategic insight, business acumen, and strong risk management skills, honed through roles across both public and private sectors, make her an invaluable addition to the board."
Dave most recently served as managing director and CEO of Export Finance Australia (2017–2022). She is currently the chair of the Advisory Board to the Centre for Australia‑India Relations, a non-executive director at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, and a member of the Trade 2040 Taskforce. In 2024, she was appointed non-executive director at the Treasury Corporation of Victoria and multicultural ambassador for Cricket Australia.
She began her career at Westpac as an associate director before holding senior roles at Bankers Trust Australia, AMP Henderson Global Investors, Deutsche Bank, and National Australia Bank. She also served as a non-executive director at Great Western Bancorp, Australian Hearing, and SAS Trustee Corporation.
Dave has held other key roles, including deputy chair at Asia Society Australia and advisory board member for the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations.
