Naperville City Councilman Ian Holzhauer will be making a visit to India as part of the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) delegation at the end of this month. He is the first representative from Naperville to join the ACYPL for an exchange to India.
During their 13-day trip, the seven-member delegation will meet government and regional officials in New Delhi, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar.
In India, the delegation will begin their journey in the capital, Delhi, move on to the historic ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur, and visit the temple-rich city of Bhubaneswar, a city of interest for economic development for the Indian government.
To foster international relations and ensure the representation of the Naperville South Asian community, Councilman Holzhauer is organizing listening sessions ahead of the exchange at Waubonsie Valley High School on October 12 and at Neuqua Valley High School on October 17.
According to a release, as Holzhauer is the first Naperville council member to visit India, the sessions aim to gather insights and perspectives from the community and build on the ties between Naperville's Indian Diaspora and their native.
To commemorate the visit, the DuPage County Forest Preserve Board named a “Bridge to India” at Springbrook Forest Preserve. “The ‘Bridge to India’ symbolizes more than a physical connection; it represents the unity of cultures and shared aspirations,” said Holzhauer.
Upon his return, Councilman Holzhauer will organize an event at the Mall of India with owner Vinoz Chanamolu to share insights from his trip.
