Five Indian cookbooks have been recognized under the 150 Most Legendary Cookbooks by Taste Atlas Awards 23/24.
Leading the list was actress and food writer Madhur Jaffrey's An Invitation to Indian Cooking, which was placed at the 9th position. The book is a pioneering introduction to Indian cuisine for Western audiences. Taste Atlas observed that it blends a variety of dishes with personal anecdotes, providing readers a journey through Indian culinary traditions.
Food writer and author Meera Sodha's "Made in India: Recipes from an Indian Family Kitchen" was ranked 25th, detailing a collection of family recipes reflecting the diversity of Indian cuisine. "The dishes are approachable, flavourful, and a celebration of the everyday cooking of Indian households," Taste Atlas stated.
Author and former executive Indian restaurants in New York Julie Sahni's Classic Indian Cooking was placed at the 31st place in the list. The book has detailed guide to the fundamentals of Indian cuisine, providing range of recipes from various regions, focusing on authentic flavours and techniques. She is also the director of Indian Cooking School, established in 1973.
Gourmand World Cookbook Award winner, food author and chef Monisha Bharadwaj's The Indian Cooking Course bagged the 33rd position. The book is a guide to Indian cooking, providing step-by-step instructions for both beginners and experienced cooks to deepen their understanding of Indian cuisine.
Lastly, author Jack Santa Maria's Indian Vegetarian Cookery on Indian cuisine was placed at 69th position among the 150 legendary cookbooks. According to Taste Atlas, the book showcases variety and complexity of Indian vegetarian cuisine. It demonstrates the versatility of vegetables and spices in Indian cooking.
