Ashwin Ramaswami, an Indian American Democrat, has maintained his momentum in his campaign for the Georgia State Senate, surpassing the incumbent Shawn Still in terms of fundraising and support.
Ramaswami, who made history earlier this year by becoming the first Indian American and Green Z candidate to win the Democratic primary for State Senate, has raised more than $412,000 and has $297,000 in cash on hand, according to a statement from his campaign.
Meanwhile, his Republican competitor has been indicted alongside Donald Trump in Georgia for trying to overturn the 2020 election results. In the latest filing period from May 1 to June 30 – while Ashwin raised over $129,000, Still only raised $1,000.
“While the money is drying up for Shawn, our campaign’s momentum shows how voters want leadership that focuses on the most pressing issues facing Georgia families: ending Georgia’s abortion ban, preparing us for the jobs and technology of the future, and protecting the right to vote,” said Ramaswami.
The 24-year-old Stanford graduate quit his federal job in election security to pursue his campaign that aims to flip the seat in District 48. According to a statement by his campaign, the district is the most competitive seat in the Georgia Senate and top pickup opportunity for Georgia Democrats.
Recently, Ramaswami’s campaign has been endorsed by Senator Jon Ossoff and Congresswoman Lucy McBath of Georgia’s 7th congressional district. Additionally, Ramaswami is also one of four Georgians to serve on the 2024 Democratic National Convention’s credentials committee.
