Georgia Tech honors Satya Nadella

Nadella expressed commitment to aligning values between Microsoft and Georgia Tech.

Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Georgia Institute of Technology earlier this week.

Accepting the honor, Nadella who regards the current era as the “golden age” of computer science, spoke of aligning values between Microsoft and Georgia Tech and looking forward to working together to create technologies and solutions for the world's most pressing challenges.   

The Indian American CEO hailed the innovation developed by the institute and asserted that technology is a “powerful means to a more powerful end, which is about empowering every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.”


 



Nadella, participated in a fireside chat with Georgia Tech president Ángel Cabrera, during which he delved into the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance workflows, improve productivity, and provide personalized instruction globally. 

“When you talk to Satya, he always leads with the impact that the company is having on people and organizations around the world," Georgia Tech president Ángel Cabrera said. 

"That sounds familiar with our mission at Georgia Tech…So, that explains why we're so excited to bring Satya into the family of Yellow Jackets,” he added.

Nadella also took part in a roundtable discussion with faculty members about the implementation and impact of AI in higher education, robotics, cybersecurity computing, and other areas.

 Alex Orso, interim dean of the College of Computing, highlighted the potential of Georgia Tech’s online computer science master’s program during the discussion.

The exchange of talent between Georgia Tech and Microsoft was a focal point during the discussions, highlighting the importance of industry-academia collaboration to shape a robust future workforce.
