Australian actress Geraldine Vishwanathan has joined the cast of Marvel Studios for their upcoming movie ‘Thunderbolts’.
According to a Deadline report, Vishwanathan replaced American actress and comedian Ayo Edebiri after the latter stepped away from the role due to scheduling issues prompted by the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023.
‘Thunderbolts’ is set for a 2025 release. Vishwanathan will also be seen in ‘Driveaway Dolls,’ set for a release in the US on February 23. The movie’s cast also includes Margaret Qualley, Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, and Miley Cyrus.
Geraldine Indira Vishwanathan is a 28-year-old actress of Indian-Swiss heritage, born on June 20, 1995. Her father Suresh Vishwanathan is of Indian descent, while her mother Anja Raith is from Switzerland.
The actress grew up in New Castle, Australia, with a younger sister. She polished her craft at the Hunter School of Performing Arts. At age 15, she moved to Los Angeles, California, with her family.
In 2015, a 20-year-old Vishwanathan was shortlisted for the Heath Ledger Scholarship, awarded to an emerging Australian actor with extraordinary ability who wishes to work and train internationally.
The scholarship has propelled several recipients to international fame, including Bella Heathcote (‘Pieces of Her’), Cody Fern (‘American Horror Story’), Ashleigh Cummings (‘Citadel’), Mojean Aria (‘The Enforcer’), and Charmaine Bingwa (‘The Good Fight’).
While did not win the scholarship, she continued to pursue a career in Hollywood. After performing standup acts and doing small parts in TV projects in her home country for a few years, Hollywood came calling for Vishwanathan in 2018 with a breakout role in comedy hit ‘Blockers.’
Later, Vishwanathan went on to do several projects, including TBS series ‘Miracle Workers’ in 2023, ‘Cat Person,’ which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and ‘The Beanie Bubble,’ which was released on Apple TV+.
In 2024, she will be seen in ‘You’re Cordially Invited,’ a comedy movie by Amazon Studios that also stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
