Shubman Gill appears poised to miss India's pivotal encounter against Pakistan on October 14, after sitting out of the team's opening World Cup 2023 match against Australia as the ace batter is recovering from Dengue fever. However, he has been discharged from the hospital on October 10.

For the first time, the BCCI addressed Gill's health on October 9 and issued a statement which read, “Team India batsman Shubman Gill will not travel with the team to Delhi on October 9, 2023. The opening batsman, who did not play in the team’s first match in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai, will not be available for the team’s next match against Afghanistan, scheduled for October 11. He will remain in Chennai and be under the observation of the medical team.”

According to Cricbuzz, Shubman Gill missed the trip to Delhi for the 2023 World Cup match against Afghanistan since his platelet count has been low for some time. According to medical advice, people with low platelet counts shouldn't fly.

The International Cricket Council on Tuesday, 10 October, revealed that the ace batter, along with Mohammed Siraj and England player Dawid Malan have been nominated for the Men’s Player of the Month (September).

The young Indian cricket sensation put up 480 ODI runs at an impressive average of 80 throughout September, demonstrating his excellent form. Gill helped India win the Asia Cup by scoring two half-centuries and an amazing century against Bangladesh. He subsequently carried over that form into the ODI series against Australia. The right-hander scored an outstanding 74 runs in the series-opening game in Mohali, and he improved on that effort by scoring 104 runs in the following game in Indore.
