Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Divyansu Patel to the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee, a position he will hold until Feb 1, 2025.
The committee is tasked with shaping statewide policies for the delivery of health care within the state’s criminal justice system.
Patel, based in Austin, is the vice president of behavioral health at TeleMed2U and a practicing psychiatrist at the Specialty Clinic of Austin. Additionally, he serves as principal investigator at Biobehavioral Research of Austin, where he has led clinical trials on mental health conditions including ADHD, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.
A board certified physician in adult and child psychiatry, Patel has over two decades of experience in behavioral health. A graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in business administration and decision information science, he earned his medical degree from the Saba University School of Medicine.
Governor Abbott expressed confidence in the appointment, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive mental health policies in the criminal justice system. “Dr. Patel’s extensive expertise in psychiatry and dedication to advancing mental health care will be invaluable in this critical role,” he said.
Patel is an active member of professional organizations such as the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Texas Medical Association. His work is widely recognized for its focus on compassionate, evidence-based treatment, particularly for children and adolescents during key developmental stages.
