Govt urges Indians to avoid joining Russian army
Some Indian nationals have reportedly enlisted for with the Russian army in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a warning to Indian nationals, advising them to refrain from joining the Russian army and avoid involvement in the ongoing conflict Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This cautionary statement comes in response to reports indicating that some Indian nationals have enlisted for support roles with the Russian army in the conflict zone.
"We are aware that a few Indian nationals have signed up for support jobs with the Russian Army,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said acknowledging the reports.
He emphasized that the Indian embassy in Moscow has been actively liaising with Russian authorities to ensure the prompt release of any Indian nationals who may have become involved in such roles. "We urge all Indian nationals to exercise due caution and stay away from this conflict," Jaiswal reiterated.
It has been revealed that three individuals, among a group of men from India who traveled to Russia to work as security guards, hail from Kalaburagi. These individuals reportedly went to Russia through agents and have allegedly been coerced into joining a private army, that is deployed in the Russia-Ukraine border.
Syed Nawaz Ali, who serves as a head constable at Madbool police station in Kalaburagi district, has penned a letter addressed to Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Tarannum and the district minister, Priyank Kharge, the New Indian Express reported.
In his letter, Ali highlighted the dire situation facing the youngsters from Kalaburagi and one from Telangana. These young men were initially promised employment as security guards with attractive salaries, only to be coerced into combat roles by a private military company on the frontline of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Ali emphasized the urgent need for intervention, as the lives of these youth could in grave danger. He appealed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, urging him to take swift and decisive action to address the critical situation.
