The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) announced the appointment of Nisha Biswal as president emerita to its global board of directors.
Welcoming Biswal to the board, USIBC president ambassador (ret.) Atul Keshap stated, “Nisha Biswal joins our global board as president emerita, bringing her deep commitment to innovative financial strategies and transformative development initiatives.”
Biswal, who previously led USIBC from 2017 to 2021, has held key roles in U.S. foreign policy and international economic development. She most recently served as deputy CEO of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), overseeing policy coordination and management.
Prior to that, Biswal was senior vice president for international strategy and global initiatives at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where she managed South Asia programs. Her government roles include serving as assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian Affairs from 2013 to 2017. During her tenure, she oversaw U.S. relations with India, Central Asia, and Bangladesh, including the launch of the U.S.-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue. She was also involved in the C5+1 Dialogue with Central Asia and the U.S.-Bangladesh Partnership Dialogue.
Commenting on her appointment, Biswal said, “I am honored to rejoin the USIBC family as president emerita on the Global Board of Directors. Over the past 50 years, USIBC has played a key role in supporting U.S.-India trade and investment. There is no economic partnership that is more important for the American private sector and the American people.”
Her background in U.S. foreign policy includes time at USAID, where she worked on development initiatives across Asia, and as deputy CEO of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), overseeing global financial operations and economic engagement.
Born in India, Biswal immigrated to the United States with her family as a child. She has been an active participant in policy dialogues in the U.S.-India relations, serving on the U.S. Institute of Peace International Advisory Council and the Aspen Institute’s India-U.S. Track 2 Dialogue on Climate and Energy.
In 2017, she was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, the highest honor conferred by the President of India to overseas Indians for their contributions to strengthening India’s global engagement.
Along with Nisha Biswal, several other executives have been appointed to the USIBC Global Board of Directors, including: Kamal Ahluwalia, chief executive officer of Resilinc,a supply chain resilience and risk management firm; Ronak D. Desai, partner at Paul Hastings LLP, specializing in litigation and legal affairs; Devanshu Dhyani, head of strategy and corporate development at Marsh McLennan, overseeing strategic initiatives; and Luke Nieuwenhuis, chief sales officer and regional president for Southeast Asia & India at Amway, responsible for global sales strategy and operations.
