Dhordo, a village in the Kutch region of Gujarat, has made it onto the World Tourism Organization's (UNWTO) list of the 54 Best Tourism Villages in the world. This accreditation has brought Dhordo international attention.

This list celebrates outstanding destinations for rural tourism that are notable for their unique combination of natural and cultural assets, strong commitment to upholding community values, and dedication to economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

"From being a nondescript village in Rann of Kutch to being honoured as one of the ‘Best Tourism Villages’ by @UNWTO. Gujarat’s #Dhordo village which hosts #RannUtsav reflects the transformation brought about in the region under leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji", Union minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri said on X, formerly Twitter.

Tucked away in the Great Rann of Kutch, Dhordo is well-known for organising the yearly Rann Utsav, a cultural festival showcasing the traditional crafts, music, and art of the area. The festival gives visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture against the stunning backdrop of the Rann of Kutch.

The UNWTO, in this third edition, selected 54 villages from a pool of nearly 260. An additional 20 villages, including Madla in India’s Madhya Pradesh, are part of the Upgrade Programme, and all 74 villages are now part of the UNWTO Best Tourism Villages Network.
