The Sikh Coalition announced the release of an updated and expanded version of the Gurdwara Security Toolkit on Oct. 16. The toolkit is available to all for free.

This toolkit includes information on resources and training provided by federal and state government agencies to help places of worship, including gurdwaras, minimize the risk of attacks.

The latest edition offers guidance on emergency preparedness, tips for security assessments, information on applying for security-related grants, and other key considerations. The update comes at a crucial time, as tensions between the governments of India and Canada affect diplomatic relations.

Aasees Kaur, Sikh Coalition senior program consultant, said, “Gurdwara security is not a one-time task but an ongoing responsibility.”

He said as threats to the Sikh communities evolve and new issues arise, the community must remain proactive in preventing incidents while also preparing sangats to respond effectively in times of crisis.

The Gurdwara Security Toolkit offers practical guidance on key topics, including emergency preparedness, conducting security assessments, and applying for security-related grants. It also addresses concerns around transnational repression and provides the latest resources to support these efforts.

The Sikh Coalition is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to protecting Sikh civil rights at all levels—local, state, and federal. With staff across the country and hundreds of volunteer leaders, the coalition is deeply rooted in community advocacy.
