Gwen Walz visits Michigan Sikh gurdwara as campaign ramps up ahead of election
The visit marked a historic first for a major party presidential campaign event at a Sikh place of worship.

Gwen Walz, the First Lady of Minnesota and wife of Governor Tim Walz, made a notable stop in Michigan, paying her respects to the Sikh community alongside Democratic Congressional candidate Debbie Dingell and State Representative Ranjeev Puri.
The visit, which took place at a local Gurdwara, marked a historic first for a major party presidential campaign event at a Sikh place of worship.
Washington Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who accompanied Walz, shared her excitement on social media, posting, “What a historic day! Today @GwenWalz paid her respects and gratitude to the Sikh community in Michigan. This is the first major party Presidential ticket campaign to visit a Sikh Gurdwara ever! It was an honor to be part of making sure EVERYONE is heard, respected and seen.” Jayapal further encouraged the team by saying, “Let’s go win!”

During the visit, Walz was asked by a young attendee whether a third-grader should do their homework. Known for her background in education, Walz responded by asking the child how much time they had already spent on it, concluding with friendly advice that “he should try to get his homework done as long as it’s not more than 20 minutes.”
Following her stop in Michigan, Walz is set to campaign in Arizona on Oct. 29, just a week before the Nov. 5 election, which pits former President Donald Trump against Vice President Kamala Harris in a closely watched race.
