Haley and Ramaswamy trail Ron DeSantis among GOP voters

While Donald Trump remains frontrunner for presidential nomination, GOP voters chose Ron DeSantis as the second popular candidate in the election

According to a new poll, Donald Trump remains the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in the presidential elections of 2024. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis received 28 percent of the GOP voters' votes as the second pick, while Indian American candidates Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley received 18 and 16 percent of the votes respectively.

The poll conducted this month, in collaboration between the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard (CAPS) and the Harris Poll and HarrisX also covered public opinion on 6-week abortion ban, Biden’s policy on the Israel-Hamas situation, and his approval rating.

The poll found that Biden’s policy on the Israel Hamas War received support from voters, leading to an improvement in his approval rating (45 percent).  80 percent of voters sided with Israel and 58 percent approved of Biden’s policies.

On the 6-week abortion ban, 41 percent of voters said women should have agency over their bodies and decide whether to have an abortion up to six weeks of pregnancy for any reason. When asked whether they supported the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark decision that constitutionalized the right to abortion for nearly half a century, 54 percent voters said they supported the SC’s decision, while 46 percent said they were not in favor.

"It is easy to lose sight of how much support there really is among American voters for Israel and for President Biden staying strongly pro-Israel. Biden's Israel policy could help him pick up swing voters, while the Democrats continue to win elections on abortion since they come across to swing voters as the party of personal freedom on this issue." said Mark Penn, co-director of the Harvard CAPS / Harris poll and Stagwell chairman and CEO.
