Vice President Kamala Harris, standing before the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, called for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza on Mar. 04. Speaking on the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, where state troopers attacked civil rights marchers, Harris also addressed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Harris directly criticized Israel, asserting that it must take more substantial actions to lessen the "humanitarian catastrophe" in Gaza. She emphasized the need for the Israeli government to increase the flow of aid without any excuses.
What we are seeing every day in Gaza is devastating.

As we’ve said, there is a deal on the table that includes a 6-week ceasefire, which would get hostages out and aid in.

Over the weekend, the United States conducted its initial airdrop of aid into Gaza. Harris is set to meet with Benny Gantz, a member of Israel's war cabinet, at the White House on Monday, where she is expected to deliver a similarly direct message to address the escalating tensions.
"People in Gaza are starving. The conditions are inhumane, and our common humanity compels us to act," Harris declared. She outlined specific measures for Israel, including the opening of new border crossings, avoiding unnecessary restrictions on aid delivery, ensuring the protection of humanitarian personnel and convoys, and working to restore basic services.
Harris stressed the importance of promoting order in Gaza to facilitate the delivery of essential resources, such as food, water, and fuel, to those in need. The vice president's remarks underscore the Biden administration's increasing pressure on its close ally, Israel, to take immediate actions to ease the dire situation in Gaza.
