Harvard Business School (HBS) has awarded Sankalp Shanker, a senior executive at the Indian venture philanthropy nonprofit Dasra, the 2024  Horace W. Goldsmith Fellowship.

The fellowship, established in 1988, is granted to incoming MBA students with a demonstrated commitment to careers in the nonprofit and public sectors. It provides recipients with $10,000 annually for two years.

Shanker’s work at Dasra, which has directed $400 million to over 1,500 nonprofits, played a pivotal role in earning him this honor. In his capacity within the founder's office, Shanker implemented data-driven processes and strategic teams to accelerate Dasra’s global growth, solidifying its position as a leading organization in the Global South.

Among his notable achievements, Shanker conceptualized Dasra’s impact dashboard, a tool designed to measure and enhance the organization’s effectiveness. He also secured institutional funding that is expected to drive 200 percent  growth in the nonprofit over the next five years.

Commenting on the significance of the fellowship, Shanker said, “This community would facilitate the exchange of innovative ideas and best practices, enhancing my approach to addressing complex social issues in the Global South.”

The fellowship program, supported by the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation and Richard L. Menschel, seeks to foster a network of HBS students and alumni dedicated to advancing social enterprise. Recipients are invited to participate in events and discussions with social enterprise leaders, furthering their commitment to making a positive impact through nonprofit work.
