Babu Jain joins UW Clean Energy Testbeds as entrepreneur-in-residence

Currently the founder and CEO of Navia Energy Inc., an AI-driven renewable energy company, Jain brings over 30 years of leadership experience across global startups and Fortune 500 firms.

The Washington Clean Energy Testbeds at the University of Washington (UW), a hub for clean energy and climate technology innovation, has appointed veteran Indian American renewable energy executive Babu Jain as its newest Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR).

In his role, Jain will advise students, entrepreneurs, and early-stage companies on critical aspects of building and scaling climate technology businesses, including product development, team formation, strategic marketing, fundraising, manufacturing strategies, and business development. 

Currently the founder and CEO of Navia Energy Inc., an AI-driven renewable energy company, Jain brings over 30 years of leadership experience across global startups and Fortune 500 firms. His accomplishments also include  leading NavSemi Energy through its acquisition by Alpha Technologies Inc. 

His career spans leadership roles in the United States, India, Singapore, and Germany, including scaling Infineon’s R&D team in Asia and introducing groundbreaking technologies in power and industrial controls.

“Babu’s experience as both a founder and a corporate executive will be invaluable for entrepreneurs and startups scaling ideas into products and pursuing funding to grow their businesses,” said Testbeds managing director Michael Pomfret.

“I’m thrilled to support the vibrant community of innovators at this impressive facility,” Jain said. “I’m passionate about the renewable energy startup ecosystem, and as the sector and the investing environment continue to evolve, I aim to provide founders and business leaders with guidance on building dynamic teams, business plans, and fundraising.”

Jain, who holds an Master of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement from BITS Pilani (India), joins an established team at the Testbeds, working alongside Investor-in-Residence Jeff Canin. Since 2017, Canin has provided entrepreneurs with guidance on funding strategies and hosted events on raising startup financing.
