An Indian national – Ashish Kapoor, a/k/a Romy Kapoor -- has been convicted for possession of child pornography, a US attorney said Feb.20.
If convicted, Kapoor, 28, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment, along with a fine of up to USD250,000 and a period of supervised release up to life, the Department of Justice said in a statement.
According to the indictment, on Dec.20, Kapoor possessed digital videos and computer images containing visual depictions of prepubescent minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
