Pravin Ranjan, a 44-year-old religious leader from Toronto, Canada has been charged with seven counts of sexual assault, according to an official statement released by York Regional Police on Apr.14.

Ranjan, who was conducting religious study sessions out of a residential property in the Town of Pickering, is accused of sexually assaulting a victim on multiple occasions between January 2021 and October 2024 during spiritual study gatherings in both Pickering and the City of Markham. Investigators also revealed that a second victim came forward, reporting an assault by Ranjan in December 2024.

York Regional Police's Special Victims Unit is now urging anyone who may have additional information or who believes they have been a victim to come forward. Authorities have released an image of Ranjan in hopes of encouraging more potential victims to contact police.

"There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence," the police said in the statement, encouraging survivors to report incidents whether recent or past.

Survivors who are not in immediate danger and meet specific conditions such as no longer having evidence that needs to be collected and access to a private email address can also report sexual assault online, York Regional Police noted.

The investigation remains ongoing.
