University of Louisville names new chair of microbiology and immunology

Bodduluri will oversee administration, lead recruitment, secure funding, and advance research and education initiatives.

The University of Louisville (UofL) School of Medicine has announced the appointment of Haribabu Bodduluri as the department chair for its Microbiology and Immunology Department, following a successful year as interim chair.

As chair, Bodduluri will manage departmental operations, lead recruitment efforts, identify external funding opportunities, and ensure compliance with LCME accreditation standards. 

“Bodduluri has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his interim role, and I am thrilled that he has accepted this permanent appointment,” said Jeffrey Bumpous, dean of the School of Medicine.

Before joining UofL, Bodduluri was a faculty member at Duke University, where his research focused on the role of chemokines in leukocyte migration. His work at UofL has included roles as a professor of microbiology and immunology, co-director of the center for microbiomics, inflammation, and pathogenesis, and researcher at the UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center. He also holds the James Graham Brown Foundation Chair in Cancer Immunobiology.

“The School of Medicine offers unparalleled opportunities for growth, and I am honored to lead the department of Microbiology and Immunology as we continue to push the boundaries in research and education,” Bodduluri said.

His academic journey began in India, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology and a Master of Science in biochemistry from Andhra University. He later completed a Ph.D. in biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Science and pursued postdoctoral studies at Johns Hopkins University.
