HindiUSA, North America's largest Hindi teaching and promotion organization, and Maa Hindi Pariwar ( माँ हिन्दी परिवार), a New Delhi-based organization dedicated to promoting Hindi jointly hosted a virtual kids poetry contest last week with participants from both India and the United States.
Thirty contestants—fifteen students from each country, ages nine to fourteen—displayed their talents at the event reciting verses of renowned poets such as Harvanshrai Bachhan, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Nirala, Kamlesh Sharma, Kavita Tiwari, and many more.
Fifteen American contestants—from states like New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Canada—displayed their poetic skills next to competitors from prestigious Indian schools in Telangana, Delhi, J&K, Kerala, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, and other states.
A panel of five judges–three from India and two from the USA, selected three winners:
Avni Rana from Shriram Shiksha Mandir School, Delhi bagged the first place while Dhriti from NSM School, Ville Parle, Mumbai and Manika Shukla from APJ School, Greater Noida, stood second and third. Other participants received consolation prizes.
Officials from the Government of India, including Umesh Joshi, Dr. Ranjit Singh, and Raghubir Sharma from the Home Ministry, graced the event. The vote of thabks was extended by Devendra Singh and Rachita Singh, founders of HindiUSA, along with Dr. Pankaj Sahil, founder of Maa Hindi Pariwar.
“The initiative aimed to foster a deeper appreciation for Hindi language and cultural values among children from both nations, fostering mutual understanding and camaraderie,” a statement by the organizers said.
