"All About Hinduism" is a 13-part educational podcast series / X - @HinduAmerican
The Hindu American Foundation's podcast, "All About Hinduism," was honored with a 2024 DeRose-Hinkhouse Award of Excellence for Speciality Programming, Podcast Series by the Religion Communicators Council. HAF is a non-profit advocacy organization for the Hindu American community.
"All About Hinduism" is a 13-part educational podcast series that explains the fundamental principles of Hinduism, and its historical context, and addresses frequently asked questions about the world's third-largest religion. Additionally, the podcast tackles contemporary issues confronting Hindus and provides insights into contentious topics.
The project was headed by HAF senior director of communications Mat McDermott, who handled production, writing, narration, and editing. Dr. Shereen Bhalla, then-director of education at HAF, served as the show's academic advisor, while script review was provided by HAF executive director Suhag Shukla. Additionally, HAF Staff Writer Syama Allard contributed as the associate producer of the show.
Commenting on the award, McDermott said, “I’m thrilled that my colleagues at the Religion Communicators Council have honored All About Hinduism with a 2024 DeRose-Hinkhouse Award. Religious literacy in the United States is low, particularly when it comes to Hinduism."
"Public perceptions about the beliefs and practices of Hindus too often remain dominated by stereotypes and misconceptions. What All About Hinduism set out to do, and I believe achieved, was create a concise and accurate portrait of Hinduism. In the second series we hope to go deeper, furthering our listener's knowledge of this vital, modern, and complex spiritual tradition," McDermott added.
